He was the fifth of eight children including Norman, Gladys, Arthur, Edmund B, Gertrude, John D, and Robert. He was 6ft tall and 149lb. With blue eyes and brown hair. Harold was single, his religion was the Church of England, and he was a clerk by trade. He lived in Perth, Ontario. His next of kin was his father Mr. John Code, and he also lived in Perth as a country treasurer. His father's family was from Drummond Township.

Code never saw any battle because the battle ended on November 11, 1918. He was in training as a signaler at that time. He received $78.20 for his time served. He returned back home and was living with his family on Drummond St. in Perth, ON by 1921 and going to school.
