Mrs. George Edward Kidd, Nursing Sister
Lulu Jenny Hastey, later Mrs. George Edward Kidd, was born in Wakefield, Quebec in Apr 8, 1886 to William and Julia Hastey. She was the sixth of seven siblings including Gertie, Edgar, Miller, Mulial, Betsy, and Catherine. She lived in Wakefield until 1911 when she moved to Kingston and started nursing at a Nursing Home. George was a doctoral student in Kingston at the same time. They got married on Aug 14, 1913 in Winnipeg.
Lula enlisted on May 5, 1915 in Kingston, ON and began serving beside her husband George who was a doctor at this time in the 5th Stationary Canadian Hospital. While her military records are not currently available, it is believed Lula served with George at the 7th General Hospital.
After the war, George and Lula initially lived in Winnipeg on June 1, 1921 and later moved to Vancouver where Lula died on Oct. 26, 1941 at the age of 52. Her husband, Dr. George, died in 1948.
